AGM 2010

I am going to use an informal style this time. Let me bring you through what we had went through for the whole exco election process.

In the beginning of April, the exco application was opened. 30 people applied. I would want to think this is because Orientation is very good so a lot of people applied but okok, is most likely because the j1s are really very enthusiastic this year. Anyway, the current exco had interviews with them to get to know their personality, why they wanted to become an exco member and what visions they have for the club. In the end, 20 people were shortlisted to enter the next round

.The 20 people selected were officially deemed the exco elects. And they then had to undertake an even harder task this time-- to plan a bonding event for the club. As the saying goes, actions are louder than words. What was intended was for the exco elects to show us what they said they can do, and 'us' includes everyone this time. As there were many candidates this year, the 20 elects were separated into two groups, and they decided to plan two different projects.After two weeks of planning, we saw what they have came up with. In the last week of April, we had an amazing race and a party for the club. Both events were pretty well received by club members. And through them, the members see for themselves who they think can lead the club.

Another week passed, during which we had the Evaluation day, a day for the 20 leaders to share their opinions on their projects, and certain other unspeakable stuff. Finally! On the second week of May, AGM arrives................Annual General Meeting (aka AGM) is a yearly event for Interact Club whereby our club members will elect their new exco after seeing how each candidate performed during their bonding project. It falls on a friday this year.

At 4.30pm in the afternoon, exco elects started to gather at the meeting point. All of them were pretty nervous. Some were pacing around nonstop, some were looking intensely at their scripts and some were sweating profusely. Of course, there were also some who remained completely at ease.At 5pm, interactors, both j1s and j2s started filling in the LT. And soon, the rotarians arrived and AGM commenced.

Response was pretty good. Though it is compulsory haha, it still proves interactors do see interact as a CCA :)

And that officially concludes NJ Interact's 41st Exco election! Thanks to everyone and especially the elects who ran and gave their best for the club. It was a hard situation this year given that only 7 positions are available, yet there are so so many capable people. Nevertheless, we hope all of you continue to love Interact, be passionate and help your friends in the Exco to bring Interact to greater heights!

1) Amazing Race (28 /04/2010)
This time, the interactors were divided into 2 groups and they play station games against each other. Personally, i wouldn't call this an 'amazing race' haha, more of station games. Ok, whatever haha. Anyway, here is the recap of some of the games I can remember:
Keep the ball airborne- Keep a moonball in the air while the other group tickles you>.>
Blindfold puzzle game- Get blindfolded and arrange letters. Interlocking fingers haha. oh some rumours started on facebook~
Burst the balloon -Answer questions with numbers 1-9, step on corresponding balloons.
Skit- Not sure! Someone fill me in!

2) One Night underStand (30/4/2010)
Haha, the name was weird. And the poster in the amphi which flashed the name drew a lot of attention from stunned passer-bys. But just so you know, they simply want us to understand one another hah. Okay again, recap:
Splat- Draw and splat(duh). Reflexes!!! (and long names) "SPLATTSSSS!"
Jigsaw Puzzle- Find hidden jigsaw puzzle pieces within the room and identify the location on them.
Muted Advertisement- dub the guy and and the shark haha
Don't Forget the lyrics-Wow this was cool. Whoever made this likes the same songs as me haha
Eat- Nuggets, PandanCakes, Hashbrowns, Potatochips, fishballs, marshmallows, softdrinks(eww)

Woahhhhh~ 2 fresh bonding sessions in one week, thanks to the exco elects, and of cos all of the interactors! However, that's not all yet! I would upload some of the 'interesting' photos here soon ^^and remember to come down for Annual General Meeting(14May, Fri, LT3)to support your favourite elects!

Weeeeeeee it had been a month since the last update! Dun blame me, april had been a busy month for Interact, you see haha.

Basically, this is the exco election process month. We did a looot of stuff like briefing, interviews, bonding sessions and etc etc.

First up was the Exco briefinggggggggg, aka the tell-you-what-does-the-exco-do session. The response was pretty good, over 30 J1s turned up. Super enthu. Was it because Orientation was fun? Haha. Anyway, in the end, 30 J1s applied and 20 successfully made it to the next round. The interviews were pretty funny, with many different types of people-some were nervous, some stunned and some super high etc. Anyway, here are some tips for interviews : 1) Breathe deeply 2) Calm down 3) Don't eat any Pocky! 4)Ohh remember to attach a photo next time! I am gonna upload all those who didnt this time, muahahahahaha

Second week into the election, the 20 elects who passed the the first round were split into two groups! Based on their interviews, 10 in each, to compete with one another! Haha just kidding, is to do two separate projects. Each group were told to design and carry out a bonding session for Interact, through which they will be accessed on. The elects organised meetings within their groups and brainstormed on ideas for their bonding projects. Finally, after 2 weeks, they came up with 2 activities for the club.....

Next, Exco Elections Matters
In case any of you is interested but didn't attend the info session. Here is a recap of what have been said:
-All applicants have to be members of Interact (duh)
-There are eight exco positions available: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Comm Serve Director, Club Service Director, Funding Director, International Understanding Director
- Week 1: Info Session
- Week 2: All applicants are to submit *application form by the end of the week.
- Week 3: Interviews start (Timeslots to be confirmed)
- Week 4: Release of interview results for successful applicants as exco elects
- Week 4-5: Exco elects have to plan and carry out a bonding session for the club. They will be evaluated through the project.
- Week 6: Evaluation of Project & Exco Elects
- Week 7: Annual General Meeting. The entire Interact Club will elect their new leaders.
- Week 8: Finalisation of Exco Positions

*Pls note that all applicants have to submit $2 along with the application forms. This $2 is for applicants to treat the exco application process seriously, and for them to really consider if they would want to run for exco before applying.

Okay, as you can see, the Exco election process is pretty tough and fairly long.

To quote our VP edmund:
"... a word of advice to all: do think over your decision carefully. Weigh your priorities and commitments, as well as evaluate your capability and capacity to fulfill the duties and bear the responsibilities of an Exco member. Should you think that yourself lacking in any area whatsoever, kindly take some time to rethink your decision. This is to ensure commitment and minimal dropouts during the course of the election process."

So, if you really feel that you have the passion to lead interact and think you are capable enough to do so, I would strongly encourage you to try for the exco. Getting into the exco is uber cool and fun and is a great experience to have! Even for those with low self-confidence, rest assured, your enthusiasm or capability will surely been seen and will make you successful in the election. You can also learn to gain that confidence over time.

Next, there will be another event that gives a chance for some of you to go overseas! Here:

Rotary club will be organising a 4D3N leadership camp called RYLA(Rotary Youth Leadership Awards). This is basically a training camp for young people to help develop their character and leadership skills. And also for you all to make more friends.

Details: Borneo Rain Forest Resort(Malaysia)
Date: 10-13 June
Cost: RM350 per student/ SGD equivalent (might be further subsidised)

Haha, didnt know Borneo is in Malaysia. Anyway, RYLA camp is pretty interesting and you can meet a loooootttt other people and have a looooottt of fun. And when I say a loooottt, it's really alooootttt. If you are interested, you will have to tell Joan asap as we usually only send and subsidise 3-4 interactors there. Don't ask me why. First come first serve, while stocks last~!

Orientation Consent Forms

In case you are checking for updates, there's nothing much going on in week 9 except for the Excos, who are seeking a final approval for the Orientation games with the teachers. The consent forms for Orientation are still with the teachers. We will be giving them out on week 10, Wednesday. In other words, next Wednesday(10March 2010).

Next, some general details of the Orientation again:

Okay the interviews are officially over! If you are still checking out this blog, you are most probably one of those people who passed, seeing that you are so enthu haha! However, if you did not, do not be disappointed, this is not personal. We simply feel you can do better by concentrating in other areas with your strengths and we sincerely wish that you will succeed in them.

Okay to all our new members, first and foremost, welcome!

You had passed the scary interviews haha. But just so you know, the interviews were not planned to scare all of you (at least for most of the parts, it was not:D)- we generally want to know all of you better and why you want to join the club.

Next, your first official Interact event will be the Interact orientation camp on 15th March 2010(Monday of March Holidays). This camp is made compulsory for all new Interactors and is basically for all of you to get to know each other and your seniors and to have fun! So, do come to have a good start in Interact! Consent forms will be handed out soon.

Next's up, Yishun JC Interact Club will be holding a "Know Thy eye" quiz this saturday, 27 Feb 2010 at their school's auditorium from 9.30am-12.30pm. They are inviting interactors from others school to attend and we are invited! This quiz is held in conjuction with YJC annual fund-raising carnival, Celebrating Values Day 2010. It aims to educate students from sec schools and JCs about avoidable blindness and the importance of taking care of our eyes. The quiz will be in the format of pen and paper quiz, and consists of simple eye care questions and no special prior knowledge is required. There will also be a lecture on basic eye care matters by a Optometry lecturer from Spore Poly as well as enriching eye-related activities for the participants.

If you are interested, please email Joan to register. The deadline for registration will be this friday. You can really consider joining it, it looks fun, is pretty large scale, supported by many charity organisations and the prizes are pretty attractive- $100, $80 and $50 for the top 3 participants, as well as 15 other consolation prizes will be given. Furthermore, you are also invited to join in their school's Celebrating Values Day carnival and visit their food/game stores, that will all be donating their proceeds to charity. What's more, this is also a good opportunity for all of you to make friends with interactors from other schools, and have a look at some of Interact Clubs' large scale events. So, do consider signing up for it.

Interview Sessions

Dear SH1s,

Interact will be having our interviews sessions next week from Monday to Wednesday.

Okay okay, while that may sound scary, this is actually just a session for us to get to know you more and is sort of a way how we start things off every year. Fret not, it will be an informal event and we promise we wouldn't bite (for now) haha. So, no worries and do come relaxed.

The list of the timeslot and location allocated to each of you will be emailed to all of you soon by this weekend. A copy will also be placed at our noticeboard outside LT1 by Monday for those who cannot access the internet. Please do check them for your interview timing and venue before your interview.

Next, in case you were wondering after the welcome tea when or how to select your scheme, you will be receiving a form to select it during your interview. So, it will be wise to start considering your preference now. The 5 schemes available are HELP, Orange, FP, MCYC and LAP.

Lastly, should you have any more questions you would like to ask about Interact or CCAs in general, you can drop us an email or simply tag in the chatbox. We will be more than happy to answer them for you.

There will be a welcome tea session for NJC Interact Club.

This session is for you all to really get to know what Interact is about, what are our activities, what local or overseas cips we offer to you,what major club events you can expect to participate in if you join Interact.

This is all so that you can make an informed decision on whether to join Interact!

After the briefing, you all can then confirm whether you would really like to join Interact and sign up officially on that day.

Then your life as a NJC interactor begins... and there will be a series of events lined up for you after that. Hah.

Anyway, please reply to our secretary elaine if you would be attending this event as we will be providing refreshments to all those present. CNY Visit + Briefing

As part of our club's community outreach efforts, we will be organising a visit to St Joseph's home(an old folks' home).
The visit is compulsory for all interactors to attend, excluding interactors in LAP, since LAP continues as usual on that day.

Purpose:

Time: 3pm(if got leadership), 2pm (without leadership)

Attending the briefing is important and made compulsory so that you will know what to do on the day of the visit!

SH2? Interested to join Interact? The dead line for acceptance of members for interested SH2s of year 2010 will be 11th Jan 2010. This is to facilitate the coordination of our external cip schemes and to stop before A levels. The criteria for admission and continuation of Interact is as such:

1) 75% attendance for weekly external CIP scheme
2) General Meeting Attendance (considered seperately)

To note: Nj Interact currently offers 5 external CIP schemes, of which members must join one scheme(min). The schemes info can be found below. With regards, 40th exco.

1. MCYC
Location: Bukit Batok
Time: 4.30pm- 6pm (Tuesday) 1.30pm-3pm (Saturday)
Day: Every Tuesday and Saturday (Choose either one)
Tuition Befriending programme- Teach tuition to under privileged kids/youth of bukit batok

2. FP- Foster Parenting (No vacancies left)
Location: Bukit Batok
Time: 8am – 1pm
Day: Every Saturday
A series of training workshops conducted on one or two Saturday morning every month. It is to equip Foster Parents, under the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS)’s Foster Parents Scheme, with the necessary skills and knowledge of providing care for foster children under them.
Volunteers will help with the following areas on the day of the workshop:
· Registration and Ushering
· Running children’s programme for:
· Baby Group: Infants to 2 years old
· Junior Group: 3 years old to 6 years old
· Senior Group: 7 years old and above
Volunteers also do post administration work such as sending out the invitations, calling them to RSVP the following session and marking their attendance.

3. LAP- Learn and Play programme
Location: Blk 718 Woodlands Ave 6 Care Corner Family Service Centre (Admiralty) opposite Admiralty MRT station
Day: Saturday
Time: 10am-12pm
- Learn through games
Participants are students in P4,5,6 from low income families with the potential to do better in their studies.

4. HELP
Location: Ang mo kio
Time: 3-4.30 (Tuition) 3-6 (Playgroup)
Day: Every Saturday
- Tuition programme or playgroup (take care of little kids). The children are from single parent families/ divorced parents etc

5. ORANGE
Location: Clementi
Time: Teaching old folks english (Tuesday 4.30-5.30pm)

Description: Playgroups. Will get chances to plan for your own games each week.

2. Helping Every Lone Parent (HELP)
Day/ Time: Sat 3.00-5.00pm (tutoring), 3.00-6.00pm (playgroup)
Venue: Ang Mo Kio Help FSC
Description: Tutoring-assigned to tutor one/two primary school children. Have to monitor their progress. Playgroups- to play with kids inside a small playroom full of toys, a cupboardful of boardgames and a TV to play cartoons on.

3. Orange
Day/ Time: Tues 4.30-5.30 (teaching elderly english) 4.30- 6.00pm(playgroups)
Venue: Clementi Rotary FSC
Description: Teaching elderly english- to teach new scripts to elderly each session. Aim to equip them with basic conversational english for use in their everyday's lives. Scripts are changed every 3 weeks. Playgroups: Tutor a while and then play with kids in a playroom.

4. MCYC
Day/ Time Tues: Tues 4.30-6.00pm or Sat 1.30-3.00pm
Venue: Bukit Batok
Description: Weekly tutoring session at a blk in Bukit Batok.

5. FP

Firstly, all the below events are going to be re-classified as "Others" instead of "CCA".

*you do not have to make any admemdments bcos Mr Daniel Wong will be i/c of it. (this is just to inform you all)

Secondly, DO NOT put "NKF fund-raising" and "Rotaract FlagDay" in your CAAL submission bcos we do not have that event AT ALL.

Thirdly, all members can submit "CCA appointment" under Interact club and state that you are appointed as a member.

OAC is organizing an Intra School Adventure Challenge (ISAC) on 5 July. It will be around Singapore, a race involving cycling, kayaking, abseiling and other outdoor sports. Under No Roof 2008: Where Hope Begins.
(helping VJC promote and advertise…)

Under No Roof is an annual camp organized by Habitat for Humanity to raise public awareness and garner support for global poverty housing and homelessness, particularly among the youth. Allowing one to experience how it is like without a basic shelter over their heads, UNR is the only camp available in Singapore that provides all participants an invaluable opportunity to experience poverty.

This year, the camp will be held overnight at Vivocity from the 7th – 8th of June.

Participants from all walks of life will come together in a bid to express their support for the people entrapped in poverty, and experience building houses out of scrap materials. All participants will stand a chance to travel to China to help needy families build or repair their homes. This building expedition will give each team member an opportunity to personally witness and contribute to Habitat's effort to eliminate poverty housing throughout the world.

For UNR'08, participants would be in groups of 10. They would be staying with their groups of 10 throughout the camp duration.

Interested participants can sign up in groups of 10, in small groups (2-9 people) or individually. The individual and small group sign-ups will be subsequently grouped into groups of 10.

The registration fee for the camp is $20 per person.

It would be great if interested parties take part in this event! I strongly encourage everybody to participate to experience a different “life” for 2 days, I am sure the event is going to be fun and enjoyable! So grab your friends and sign up NOW!
The suggested deadline for participant application is 3rd May, please sms Jing Qi to tell her all participants name as a group. (:

NJC Interact Club is organising a donation drive for the upcoming Cebu trip we are going this june!!!

We are collecting: Books, toys, clothes etc.

ALL items will go to: Department of Social Welfare and Development in Philippines, the Girls' home and SOS orphanage in Cebu. So do help by carrying in out through your actions! Go ransack your house and donate items that are still in relative good conditions ok?

Venue to place items: PIANO area.
Alternatively, can pass to me too!!!

There is an upcoming youth event jointly organised by Rotary E-Club of 3310 and Rotary Club Suntec City, with Youth Life Ownership, a social enterprise supported by MCYS under ComCare Enterprise Fund, on 26 & 27 July 2008 @ ITE College East, Simei.

This event aims to find you find your hidden talent and unleash your potential. Cost per student is originally $220, after the subsidy from rotary cluc, it is now at $90!!

Event Chair is President of Rotary club Edmund Chew. Guest-of-Honour will be Mrs Yu Foo Yee Shoon, Minister of State, Ministry of Community Development, Youth & Sports.

hello everyone! due to popular demand, nice qy is here to post again!
hahas yep. all the wonderful photos were taken during the amigos camp.
and first few are my group's pics so if you are jealous, too bad la! next time come my grp! :)

my grp at clarke quay. this was our first station so the energy level was still quite ok!

NJC interact club and National University of Singapore is raising funds as well as other donations for HOME (Humanitarian Organization of Migrant Economics.)

About HOME

The Humanitarian Organization of Migrant Economics (HOME) is a registered society and charity that looks into the welfare and rights of migrant workers in Singapore. It adopts a multi-pronged approach of Advocacy, Welfare and Empowerment with a myriad of programmes implemented in line with this. HOME also offers assistance and redress for the many problems that plague these foreign workers, establishing and maintaining two shelters that provide food and lodging for destitute migrant workers as they await redress.
However, the shelters can only take in a limited number of workers. There are many other destitute workers who desperately need help but HOME lacks the funds to provide them with any form of assistance.

Project objective

We hope to lend support to HOME by working with NUS to raise funds for HOME as well as essential food items to alleviate the pressing problem of a shortage of food items. In addition, we aim to raise awareness about the plight of foreign workers and take one step further in educating the student population and debunking any stereotypes that they may have of migrant economics.

We will be carrying out the fund raising as well as collection of food items such as rice and canned food within NJC. Campaigns and exhibitions will be put up as well during the course of project to raise awareness. Prior to the whole event, we may be carrying out publicity within the school.

So do help by bringing food items such as rice and canned food within NJC! Give it to the Interact booth in school Canteen from this weds to fri (26.03.08-28.03.08).

Orientation 2

whoohoo!!

Orientation 2 is next fri!! It will be a two days one night camp for ALL jc2s and it’s always compulsory for those jc1s who wish to join interact club!!
This camp is planned by our own club serv. so we can all go there and have fun!
Venue: NJC
Cost: $3 (for jc2s), $15 (for jc1s-including interact tee)
Time: 29th Feb- 01st March

For the jc1s who had missed the first GM prepared for you all (22nd Feb, LT3)…
The gist of the whole meeting is to tell you all that we are selecting only 60 members to be Interact Club this year. There will be a probation period for you all and we will announce the results of membership as soon as can.
As for the camp, it is going to be filled with activities and games so come and enjoy and bond with the rest of the club members. I can assure that it is going to be a very fun experience! (:
Anyway, the consent form of the camp can be taken from out interact board (outside Lt2, beside angklung notice board). This form should be given back to us the following week! We will have a booth in the canteen until weds (27th feb) so you can pass it to any one of us!!

In addition, for the second intakers who wish to join us and have not give us your registration form, you can take from the interact notice board and filled in your details. Put the form back to the board after completion.

Hello people! I'm here to update on the bonding cum senior's farewell session!

ok.. since i was only there since 1300 hrs, i didnt know what happened during the preparation.

Anyway, we had games in the afternoon and it was.. quite fun lah. haha. the rain was both a blessing and a curse. becoz of the rain, we played something grade pig in the pavilion. however, the rain made those papers quite wet and disgusting. i am from group 1 btw.

We had the bbq after that! it was the highlight of the session in my opinion. Although the wind made it difficult to start the bbq, it was all part of the fun and we bonded somehow while starting the fire. HAHA. ok, there aren't any pictures till this point coz i dun have any. loLZ.

some pple left early and some left later, yada yada yada. those who stayed till the end of the bbq played with sparklers!

ps.. DO NOT BE LATE. i don't think you want everybody to wait for you rights? so please try to be punctual.

To bring:
- Wear interact T-shirt
- An extra attire to change after the water captain ball (unless they are confident that they will not get wet)
- Water bottle
- Insect Repellent (optional)

- Umbrella/Raincoat (optional)
- Sum of 15 dollars (Bike rental: 5 dollars, Food and Miscellaneous: 10 dollars)

that day was a really satisfying day for everyone! we impressed the rotarians and the thai teachers! WHOOO!

at night! we started preparing for our cultural exchange performance! we learnt thai songs and dances! we learnt singapore town, dang wo men tong zai yi qi, vuneru malibaa and chan mali chan! we practised till 1 am! it was fun haha especially the thai dance!

HELLOOOO PEOPLE THE LIFE 5 PPL ARE BACK SAFE AND SOUND.
IT HAS BEEN A REALLY GREAT TRIP :DD

DAY 1
on 6th dec, the 14 of us with the other 22 students and 1 teacher and 2 rotarians boarded the plane! and off to our destination!

look at the barang barang we brought!

when we reached phuket, apparently the bus driver forgot about us so we had to wait for him to come and fetch us haha. consider us fortunate, we had our only dose of air-conditioned bus cos of that!

Chao Thai Mai school isn't bad, really! the classrooms are better than nj ones, i think hahah.

probably the best building in the whole village. it's the computer lab and it rocks haha. the void deck is the most important place. we discuss things there, dance there, sing there, play there!

we started our planning for the lesson next day at night. but things were not really going well )):

DAY 2!
We started with ice-breakers with the thai kids! their stamina is crazy!

we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly too!

then official lessons began.

it wasn't very good, actually very bad. hahah the kids were running around, not attending the classes we prepared for them and we had to rely on a Thai student from ACS(i) to be the translator. haha he's name is pete! a very funny and friendly person! will see alot of his photos i think!

rather rare successful moments hahah

computer lessons! but they secondary school ones are already quite skilled in ppt before we came haha!

despite the lessons not being very successful, the friendship dance we taught them was great!

at night! we started planning from scratch again with our new groups. we all love our groups! hahah we were divided into group 1: P1s and P2s (the monstrous bunch); group 2: P3s and P4s (the devilish yet angelic bunch), it's my group!; group 3: Sec 1s and Sec2s (the young adults); group 4: P5s and P6s (the angels)
we worked really hard k! hahah

1. Firstly, Promo is over, so I hope you all will shift your focus back to Interact and the projects we have to handle. For those for you who do not know, each comm. is supposed to do 2 projects in our term of service-which is this year till next year June. Apparently, all of our comm. has not done any projects because after installation it is already very close to promo date. So, the original gm on 10.10.07 is to update on our future projects of each comm. but since we do not have it because of early dismissal please read the mail thoroughly.

2. Each comm. matters:

Funding comm.: carry out a fund raising for the tsunami hit Khao Lak for now and then for next yr, it will be feb's valentine funding project.

Club. Serv.: Club welfare
- Ongoing: IMH visit i/c: jingxian
This is a project of Rotary of Singapore West club serv. director, Wahid, we are only helping them out by providing them with 10 volunteers. It is to provide our service to go there and decorate the ward for Christmas. It is a one-time event. Date is not settled yet.
- Encouragement gifts for J2s by 24th oct
As the JC2s exams are coming, we are planning to make them little gifts to help them jiayous!
- NOV /DEC (to plan): Orientation 1
- NEXT YEAR(to work on O1 proposal): Orientation 2

- Ongoing: next june CEBU cip trip
- Amigos camp in mar 08 (to plan in jan & feb 08)

Comm. Serv.:
- St joseph home visit in Jan

Each comm. is supposed to send out two representatives for the IMH visit in Dec, it is to help decorate one of the wards for the Christmas season, the date is not finalised yet so do wait for further details! In-charge will be jingxian but do tell your comm. heads first if you are interested. (:

Comm. heads will be calling you all up for meetings for each individual comm. to settle their own project, please turn up and participate. Joining a CCA is a commitment and since we are doing meaningful stuffs, give your unwavering support to make it a success.

3. This is to the AD elects only, please meet me for a short while on Tuesday (30th October 2007) morning-7.25am @ atrium- for a short briefing. I am supposed to inform you all to plan for 2 events for this coming holiday so please try to make it. Give me a sms beforehand to inform me if you cannot come.

4. Next gm is on the 24th Oct 07, 9.15am @ LT3. EVERYONE is to be present. This is a very important gm. Attendance is compulsory, those who are not present are expected to produce a MC. No other reasons is entertained and your attendance for this whole year will definitely be affected somehow somewhat. So full attendance is expected of every comm.

TO ALL LAP VOLUNTEERS!

PROMOS have finally ended! jonathan and i will like to wish you the bestest best luck though promos are over. hee. now that PROMOS are over, its time to get our heads back into LAP. there're a few big events coming up. so do take note! (notice that i cant get past the fact tt promos are over. lol!)

#1 LAP Session on 1 Sept 2007

jonathan has feedbacked to me that the last session of term 3 is quite disorganized. the main prob encountered is tt the volunteers are unaware of what to do. i would like apologise for my absence cos i've got chem makeup lesson in sku. so let bygones be bygones. and we'll improve in future! things to take note for each session: first, if you're unable to turn up on any of the sat, pls let me know in advance, preferably by thurs so that the lesson can be planned smoothly. (if you can foresee tt you'll be sick, pls let me know too! haha) second, organisers for each week's lesson are to send jonathan the lesson plan by fri 5pm so tt he can prepare the materials. those who do not know his email, its jonathantoh@carecorner.org.sg. last, organisers cannot be late on the sat itself bcos they have to brief the others wad to do. so normally, i'll pass down a relay sys msg reminding everyone wad time (normally 9.30am) to turn up.

#2 P6 One-to-One Tuition

previously, jonathan has requested our help in giving tuition to P6 lap kids in preparation for their PSLE. i passed down a relay sys msg asking if anyone was interested. but turns out that some of you didnt receive it. nvm! just an update. there were 2 sessions actually, but as they are very near our promos, i gathered tt no one is interested and told jonathan tt we couldnt make it.

#3 Term 4 LAP

term 4 lap will officially commence on the 20th Oct, and last for 7 consecutive Sats. they are three major events coming up so far, namely Food Galore on the 20th (this is not the real name. i anyhow give name for easy reference :x), Big Lap Sale and Farewell Party for our Seniors and P6 LAP kids. Foor Galore, i'll explain in detail below. the two other events, we 'll discuss some other day (maybe during GMs/ LAP sessions). basically, i'll need an IC for each of the event and we'll need to set a date for the event and plan wad will happen on the actual day.

#4 Food Galore

this event, as said above, will be held on the 20th. on that sat, we'll have normal lap session till 12. but we'll be having games, and no lessons, bcos some non-lap kids will be joining us. there'll be a total of bout 30 kids so we'll have to discuss tgt wad games we'll play tt day during the next meeting. after 12, hotel chefs will be coming down to the centre to cook for the kids. so we also get to enjoy the good food. SO, i strongly urge everyone to be present since there'll be good food and most imptly, i need ppl to manage the large crowd! thank you! (:

#5 3 Nov 2007 Excursion with LAP Kids

CIP hours will be rewarded as usual. thanks for the overwhelming response. im so sorry to say tt the organisation only allow 5 volunteers to join in the fun and jonathan has requested for me to go and for ppl who can represent NJC and LAP as there'll be big shots there. i've chosen the following 5 ppl based on their attendance and enthusiasm level. sorry to those who're not chosen. pls understand tt its not against you or sth! i assure you tt there'll be other opportunities! the following 4 ppl: yangyan, rachel, yeeyan and huiyan, pls check your email for more details. as for the shirt size, jonathan has ordered XS for all of us cos the shirt is quite big.

#6 Miscellaneous Stuff for Term 3 LAP

on our next meeting, i'll need you all to check your attendance for term 3 lap, so pls recall how many sessions you've attended. i apologise for holding on to some of your indemity forms and passport size photos. i'll pass to jonathan on the 20th. sorry! for those of you, who havent pass jonathan your passport size photos, rmb to bring on the 20th. those who still do not have indemity forms, tell me asap. thank you!

heyo people!
im efficient k! hahas although qy is more efficient today. she repaired the cbox! whees! which means we can tag again! rmb to tag k!

anw today we had a mini-mini-belated-birthday-celebration for uncle fan aka mr fan aka fanjian! LOL. although it was super mini and we only sang him a melodious and sweet birthday song, it is still a moment for all to rmb! (cos my birthday will be coming soon and must i want a celebration too!!)

after we sang the sweet bday song, we took a nice sweet photo(:

and mr fan received his yummy yummy cookies which we baked! not from famous amos k!

project life 5

Hi all!

The following details are for a project entitled Project LIFE 5. More information on this project will be sent to you through your comm. heads so do check your emails! LIFE 5 will take place at the sea gypsy village school of Chao Thai Mai (Khao Lak region). In addition to English teaching, the organizers intend to assist with the set up of a livelihood programme for the sea gypsy villagers of Ban Tab Pla-Lam Pi (Rotary Community) using crab farming. If you signed up for this project, you will be hosted at the school there and spend time and energy with the primary school children and interacting with local villagers during the construction of crab farms. Please see attachments from your comm. heads for more details.

There will be 2 departures: 02-7 Dec and 06-11 Dec so that the overall impact of the programme will be maximised. All participants will be required to engage in Community Emergency Preparedness Programme and intense briefing prior to departure.

Deadline for signing up is 20 September 2007, Thursday.

I encourage all of you all to go for this fun and meaningful activity; I’m sure it will be enriching so do ask your parents for consent as soon as possible and get back to us if you all are interested.
For members in funding comm., please note that this will be your first funding project to tackle on once promos is over so be prepared and stay focus ok?

For now, concentrate on the upcoming exam and do well yea?

hello again! today we went to somewhr near bishan (dun know whr la!) to distribute all the RICE that we collected for BNDR! whees. finally distributed all of them after all our hardwork packing the rice and catching the weevils. 3cheers for everyone!!

anw we travelled there by van..

and the van was super super squeezy cos it was filled with many many many RICE! well, we are skinny and slim so the 7 of us managed to squeeze in(:

but it was still very hot and stuffy, and very boring! so we attempted to play cards on the squeezy little van..

Heys all.

Interact general meeting on the 29th August 2007 is cancelled because comm. serv. members have to go and deliver the rice for their Be Nice Donate Rice project. Do go and help if you are free! CIP hours will be awarded so do indicate to qiuyi that you can make it.

The shortlisted Assistant Directors are out; please check your email for further instructions. They were a bit of amendments to how this thing is going to be carried out, approach Jingqi or any of the exco members if you need clarifications. Congratulations to those who got in! For those that did not manage to get in, please do not be disheartened, all candidates are good and we had a hard time trying to cut down the numbers too. We hope the interview wasn’t scary, and for those that got in, keep up the good work yea?

Next, CCA activity will cease before the one week holiday so all schemes have to stop. Study hard for promotions examinations this holiday and take the time to revise!
